Dr. Alexander Jeffrey Kim

Dental Implant and Periodontics Specialist

Dr. Alexander Jeffrey Kim is a specialist in Dental Implants and Periodontics, currently practicing in Sunnyvale, CA. His passion for lifelong learning began early—at just 13 years old, he was accepted to the prestigious Phillips Exeter Academy on the East Coast, where he completed his preparatory education. He went on to earn a degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA.

Dr. Kim pursued his dental education at the University of the Pacific (U.O.P.) in San Francisco, one of the few dental schools offering an accelerated three-year DDS program. He further enhanced his clinical skills through an Advanced General Dentistry residency at U.O.P. before completing a specialized residency in Periodontics at the University of Pittsburgh.

During his three years in Pittsburgh, Dr. Kim focused on both surgical and non-surgical periodontal therapies aimed at improving jawbone health, gum function, smile esthetics, and implant success. Outside of his professional life, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and three children.

Our practice offers a full range of dental services to address all your oral health needs. Oral needs – from routine check-ups and cleanings to advanced

periodontal surgery, and dental implants.

Dental implants can only be positioned if there is sufficient bone to attach the prosthetic tooth to. If bone loss has occurred, bone grafting is an excellent way to add or “grow” bone so that an implant may be properly secured.

In order to expose more of the natural tooth, the periodontist can remove some of the surrounding gingival tissue so that there is enough tooth structure for a crown to be placed.

As gingivitis and periodontitis progress, it becomes more difficult to cleanse the pockets between the soft tissues and the teeth. The periodontist can scale and root plane the teeth (sometimes under local anesthetic) to remove debris and infection-causing bacteria.

When a tooth or several teeth are missing, the periodontist is able to create a natural-looking replacement by anchoring a prosthetic tooth to the jawbone.
